Chapter 4: Family ties
The night was quiet, the soft sound of the trees moving with the wind was the only sound that was apparent in the winter landscape. As the wind blew some of the snow fell from the roof of the cabin that sat quietly over that little hill in the pine tree wall. Inside there was only silence. The soft crunch of the burning logs was the only sound that was heard in the small place.
He slowly woke up as his eyes adjusted to the darkness he realized how Nebbia slowly turned towards him and cuddled in his arms as she was deep in her sleep, he felt her head press on his chest as she gently held from his shirt and breath slightly in her sleep. He was a bit stunned and flustered by her being so close to him, he admitted it had been a long time since he had company in bed with him, especially like this, but all in all... he admitted he missed the feeling of a woman in his arms. Her warm body felt good but even he had to admit he felt like he was taking advantage of the situation.
"I don't want to be seen as a creep, especially to her," he thought as he avoided moving at all, almost like he was paralyzed with nerves. He tried to push her but as he did she pushed herself a bit more, revealing a bit of her shoulder from her gown. He noticed the bruises that she had on her skin, the black marks that seemed so deep like almost lacerations. He couldn't resist and his finger gently passed over her bare skin, she quivered a bit... "they hurt" he thought.
Nebbia let a slight sigh and took a deep breath still with her eyes closed, she pressed herself a bit more to him as it seemed like she just adjusted herself and kept sleeping.
“This girl sleeps deep,” he thought “Even in this situation… I envy that” he just wanted to stay in that moment forever. He relaxed a bit and rested his head again on the pillow, he felt still tired and let his body rest a bit more, it was still dark and there was no reason to be up this early.

The slim line of light hit Frost on his face, he lay on his back looking at the ceiling, it seemed more lit than earlier that morning. Nebbia on the other hand had made herself comfortable on his side resting her head on his shoulder as she still held from his shirt. She looked so comfortable but they needed to start moving.
- Nebbia? - He said softly to her as he turned to her. She stretched a bit still with her eyes closed. - We need to get up - he said again trying to keep her awake. She opened her eyes, taking a bit of time to adjust to the sight
- Oh I'm sorry... - she said as she rubbed her eyes. He gently pulled himself from her side, even when it was rather difficult for him... he did feel comfortable with her. Seemed like she didn't even realize what she did.
- It’s alright, he said. He sat on the side of the bed as she stretched a bit. A good night's sleep would do wonders for one. Nebbia was slowly sitting, yawning still. She was a hard one to get up from bed. He stood up and started his routine as she slid herself slowly from the bed.
- Sadly, we do need to move. We have to be in town as soon as we can- he said as he started the fire going again.- Dress up accordingly; we have a walk ahead of us- he said as he threw some logs on the fire.
Nebbia finally stood up and stretched, as she looked at Frost she had a weird thought on her mind “Maybe… I don’t want to leave just now… like not right this second...”. As she stood up she walked to Frost.
- hey… - Frost turned to her a bit confused.
- What’s wrong? - Nebbia looked at him a bit blushing as she stood in front of him.
- promise me… that you won’t leave me alone there, that whatever happens… you stay by my side… you’re the only person I know here and… I just don’t wanna be abandoned again. Not this time...- she said as she was fiddling with her nails again, Frost smiled at her trying to reassure her.
- I won’t, I’ll be right there, whatever they do I’ll be right there – he did not hesitate in promising that to her, in a way it was the right thing to do. Nebbia trusted him, she had no other option but she was taking the chance on him.
***
They head out for the village, Frost was walking slowly this time, he didn’t want to rush her, especially because she was adjusting to her boots. Nebbia wore a long coat that looked like a very thick kimono that was tied with a piece of fabric from her waist, over her shoulders she had also a cloak much like his just with no wolf pelt, but it looked like it would protect her a bit more from the weather. Under her she wore the leggings she had, she just thought it be a good idea so she would keep a bit of warmth in her legs. The boots were nice they covered her calf and they had a fur cover inside so it made them extra warm but the ice and snow were a bit hard for her to maneuver. She tried to keep a good step and Frost helped her as much as he could but she wanted to do it on her own.
As she took a step she slipped a bit but Frost quickly grabbed her before she fell, she sighed frustrated.
- I did not know this was so hard! - she said as she set her footing better.
- Well if you never had snow under your feet it’s perfectly normal to be this clumsy – he said as he kept walking.
- Yeah, I can see believe me – they kept walking till finally the cover of the trees showed a bit of the sunlight and hence the road being less icy from the cover of the shadow, Nebbia had a better step making her less stressed. - Oh this is much better - as she walked a bit more confident. Frost smiled at her as he kept walking.
- It’s a couple of hours from here, at least the weather is fine, even if there was a light snow it wouldn’t be that bad – he explained as he looked around the area.
- back home we… did not have snow in winter – she said – most of my winters were maybe cold, but it was more rainy than anything – she explained.
- It’s obvious if you lived in a place like Autumnland it would make sense –
- My favorite season is Autumn, which is not hot nor very cold, the rainy mornings the chilly nights… the orange vibe of the mid-light sun. Oh, I love it – she said almost in a romantic manner.
- What’s a season? - Frost asked confused.
- Oh, well… hmmm… you don’t have changes of seasons here? -
- No, what’s that? - he was very confused, he never heard of the word before.
- Well… where I come from the world changes every four months if I’m correct – she said as she started to count with her fingers – But if we go by seasons it’s Winter when the earth is cold because of being so far away from the sun, then it’s Spring when it’s starts getting warm and all the plants start growing back, then Summer which is when we are the closest to the sun and it's hot, we slowly go away from the sun and its Autumn and the earth gets a bit colder… and again we go back to Winter which is the end and start of the year – Nebbia just blabber all that information not perceiving that Frost had a blank face of confusion.
- Interesting… - he said as he kept walking. She looked at him a bit embarrassed.
- Sorry, It's hard for me as well to explain... but yes we don't usually have snow –
They kept walking, and they started to see the stone road under them.
- We are close, we made good time – he said as he looked at her. Nebbia seemed a bit nervous, she was already fiddling with her fingers as she played with her fingernails. Frost felt like he needed to make her mind off of things. He took off his glove and started to move his hand a bit, Nebbia noticed, that he looked like he was trying to make his fingers feel some circulation.
- Are you ok? - Nebbia asked. He didn’t answer as he focused on his hand and noticed a strange glow coming from it and thin air… a crystal formed as it floated in his hand.
- Well I'll be damned, I can do it again – he said surprised but happy.
- WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??? - Nebbia stood in awe as she saw the little clear crystal float in his hand gently turning.
- Ice magic, it’s been a while since I could make anything – he said – I can’t believe it… - he turned to her smiling and noticed her distraught.
- MAGIC???? Y’all can do that??? - she got closer as she inspected the element, gently floating over his hand.
- Not everyone, some come with the gift some… just don’t I guess – as he closed his hand the crystal shattered into a strange mist. - Your world doesn’t have gifts like this? -
- NO! I… I come from a very different world – she expressed – Magic… doesn’t exist -
- It probably does but your people don’t perceive it easily. It’s normal. - he said as he put his glove on, he smiled to himself a bit proud of what just happened, “it’s back… I finally can protect myself again” he thought. Nebbia looked at him still perplexed.
- Can… I learn that? - she asked a bit curious.
- Sadly no, you have to be from my kind to handle that kind of ability… I’m sorry – he said.
- ah rats… - she crossed her arms – pretty cool not going to lie – she said as she kept walking.
- What is pretty and cool? -
- it’s just an expression… - she answered, she kept forgetting this was not her world at all but as little time passed she was rather comfortable with this strange new place. As Frost kept walking Nebbia was lingering in her thoughts as her attention was more focused on the scenery, never in her life had she had the privilege or the opportunity to go into the countryside. Her life was suburban or urban, especially when she was living by herself in the apartment, being surrounded by buildings and businesses never showed her the side of living out from that general area, so when she started looking at her new surroundings it gave her a strange glee of fascination.
The little homes in the winter landscape seemed to her like only paintings or maybe pictures on a computer, she always wanted to visit places like this so, for her, it was very unreal to finally stand there, for once she did not have her mind on “I should be going home...” she was more entangled with what was surrounding her and it was probably because of Frost’s words from the night before, that she needed to just absorb and enjoy what she had right now in front of her.
- We are almost there – Frost said to her as he pointed to the entrance to the village, which it’s something she had never seen before. A gate built from rock with a curved arc was the welcoming point to this place, it made sense so people who passed by understood that it was the formal entrance to the village itself, she saw the main avenue and noticed also the stone road was more visible and formal compared to earlier into the road, it was easier to walk on it as well as the foot traffic was far more than the back road down by the tunnel of trees as she reflected on it’s look. Nebbia started to see people walk around, everyone looked like Frost, their blue skin some darker some lighter with colorful hairs, most of them were in the same shades of blue or black and some white. Nebbia instantly walked closer to him as she held onto his cloak almost nervous of the strangers that were just about doing their things. Not a lot of attention was brought to them, she did notice a couple of people who looked like her actually but seemed to their talking in what looked like a bar or pub.
- It’s okay – he said to her almost to reassure her that he was still by her side, Nebbia held him a bit tighter as she felt the nerves overwhelm her as she felt the anticipation of whatever was going to happen.
- Frost?? - a voice of a man sounded loud, not so much as a scream but more of a way to attract his attention, Frost turned back and sighed. From the other side of the street, coming from a group of younger people came someone quickly smiling and waving, he seemed as tall as him but with short black hair and darker skin. Nebbia instantly hid behind Frost feeling a bit scared.
- Luke – Frost said almost in a spiteful tone.
- Hey we haven’t seen you in a while, we thought you left town for good! - he said, Nebbia noticed his tone as he spoke, she heard that smug tone before. He turned to her and smiled.
– Oh what have we have here? I didn’t know you had company, she’s so tiny she hides easily – he said as he turned down to her.
- We have to be somewhere Luke – Frost said as he intervened putting his arm between him and Nebbia. Luke turned his attention to him.
- We sort of heard that you were dealing with some things, didn’t think it was with a cute foreigner – he said as he crossed his arms and kept looking at Nebbia who kept quiet.
- It’s none of your business or any of the others – he said as he gazed at the group he came from, they were all standing looking smirks and also curious about what he had in his hands.
- Hey, I just wanted to say Hello! And – he turned to her – Welcome to Town, hope you stick around – he said as he turned and started to walk away – We will see you around Frost – he promptly walked away and started to talk to the rest of the group.
- Sorry about that, small town… does make the word go around fast – he led her as he put his hand over her shoulder and kept walking, Nebbia still looked at the group but put her attention to where they were headed.
After some time Frost came back to the same place where he had seen his mother earlier the day before, Nebbia looked at the building and started to look around the area, it felt like a little town in the fantasy stories she used to read as a kid, also a bit Viking type.
- I just hope Ram is… in a proper attitude – Frost said frustrated.
- Ram? - Nebbia asked, she heard the name before but he never did articulate who that person was, but the way they mentioned this person seemed… a bit hard to digest. Frost pushed the door and let Nebbia in, as she walked into the doorway, the building outside was stone but the walls and floors were wood from the inside, they had crates and some baskets with vegetables and fruits, they looked like whatever she had back at home nothing different. There were utensils and other tools for general maintenance almost like a grocery and hardware store. She stood close to the door as Frost walked towards the counter, he looked on the back hoping to see someone.
- I’m here!- Frost said loudly hoping to attract some attention, and from behind Nebbia the door opened. A large tall man came in, he was rather buff and with dark black hair in a ponytail, with a thick beard covering his face. On his shoulder, he had a sack of something lifting it with no effort. Nebbia gasped a bit and moved from his way, he looked at her with a serious look on his face.
- Frost, you finally came – his voice was loud and deep, and his presence was indeed a bit fearful for Nebbia. Frost turned back and walked to him.
- Yes sir, I imagine Pris informed you – Frost’s tone was almost military in a way, and it seemed the tension was rather strong between them. The large man saw Nebbia as he walked beside her, he put down the large sack with others that laid on the floor against a pile of other things, he cleaned his hands, and walked to the counter.
- I’ll get your mother and we can head to the elders. The sooner we are over with this the better – he said as he walked to the back door. Nebbia walked to Frost who stood there looking at the door waiting for them.
- Is that Ram? - she asked.
- Yes, my mother's husband – he said, was an odd way to refer him but she did not ask about it, also it was very apparent what was going on, or at least she thought she knew. - he is behaving at least, for now – he said.
After some moments Pris came out from the door smiling at them, behind came Ram in silence as he took what seemed like an apron and left it over the counter walking behind her.
- I’m glad you both got here early – she said smiling, she turned to Nebbia – Oh those fit you good my dear, I was a bit worried they didn’t – she said in a sweet tone. Nebbia smiled blushing a bit.
- It did, thank you so much for your help – Nebbia said a bit shyly.
- We better get going – Ram interfered as he walked between them. Frost looked at him almost as if he shoved himself between everyone, he was not happy. Pris on the other hand just passed by Frost and patted his shoulder almost reassuring him everything was alright. Nebbia saw the whole interaction of the situation and felt she was more of an interference than anything at that point… but in the end, her normal thoughts came whispering bad ideas into her head “You are not part of this...”
They walked down the street and got closer to a big building. For Nebbia it looked like those old Viking churches that she only saw in movies, two big statues stood outside as they walked down the entrance. Inside there was a big hall that was bare, the wood inside seemed a lot more polished and better maintained than the ones she had seen already making it give a more proper look. As they walked inside a great hall was in front of them and deep inside there was a great fireplace on the back and some long, empty tables, almost for feasts or events… it was rather beautiful from Nebbia’s perspective as she gazed at the place. As they made headway inside a group of older men were sitting at one of the long tables others close talking to each other, as if they were in a meeting, as she saw this she instantly felt tension holding close from Frost’s cloak almost in comfort, he gazed at her, she seemed scared and as they walked he grabbed her hand comforting her making Nebbia a bit surprised on this little act of kindness.
- Is this the girl you were speaking of? - one of the men said, he was old with grayish hair sitting on the other side of the table already his attention on her.
- Yes, Frost found her on the edge of the woods up where the old farm was – Pris said as she walked closer.
- That place is barren also… the woods? The woods are very thick I don’t believe there’s a trail that can lead you anywhere down those paths. - another one said.
- if I may interject – Frost said – it’s not so much where I found her, it’s more how I did, it was something I have never seen before, and for what she explained to me… this is not her world – as he mentioned this some of the elders looked at each other in confusion.
- what do you mean by world? I thought she got lost from the autumn lands… - one asked.
- No, she… - Frost looked at her a bit confused not knowing how to explain the event. - she was inside of what I can only explain as a big bubble of water floating in the middle of the woods – he explained.
- A bubble? - another asked
- That’s what I saw – he answered. All the elders started to talk among themselves confused.
- Does the girl speak? - asked the first elder. Nebbia looked at everyone scared.
- yes… - she answered – it is really hard for me to explain what happened, but… it just told me that I needed to go back and help him… whoever it was, it was someone I had never seen before – she said.
- It’s a strange matter indeed… we never had this sort of event – one of them intervened.
- Are you sure she is not from those spirit people in autumn land? - another one asked.
- I have never even heard of all this, my… my world is not this one in this place or any…. I don’t know where I am… - Nebbia said as she shivered.
- I am sorry Frost but… this is a matter we can not help with, maybe it be better if you take her to her people – an elder said. Frost was a bit confused as he looked at everyone.
- But… she is stating she is not from that place or anywhere here, how are we supposed to do that? - Frost was very upset it just felt like everyone didn’t want to deal with this problem that she was in.
- May I intervene? - a voice sounded loudly from the back of them – It seems like all you nice folks do not have an inch of compassion for this poor lost girl – the stranger came in with almost a southern accent and a raspy voice, as he got closer to Nebbia and noticed he didn’t look like the winter people, he had light tan skin, dark long red hair that was graying and looked a bit messy, his outfit was different with knitted clothing and a blue half cape that he had hanging from his shoulder, his yellow-brown eyes looked at her as he smiled friendly towards her.
- Gavin, of course, your long nose as always, poking in everyone's business– said the first elder.
Gavin laughed slightly – This is a bit my business if y’all are just saying this poor kid is one of mine and just want to throw her off into the wilderness and hope her the best so, why even bother saying anything really – he said resenting their attitudes in a very gracious way. - All I am saying is I can TAKE this problem off your raspy hands and I can fix this mess for you, for once – he said mockingly. A loud sigh of disappointment came from Ram, almost as he expected this to happen.
- Very well Gavin, but we do not want this mess to affect us any more than it should, this is the decision of the table – the first elder said as everyone started to stand up and leave the spot heading out. Pris grabbed Frost's arm and pulled him away for a moment as Nebbia let him go and stood there by herself seeing the judging eyes of all the older men looking at her, as they walked away she could hear the echoes of their whispers speaking about them in confusion and almost in a strange disgust, she felt strange even... bad.
- Are you ok kid? - Gavin asked as he walked close to her, Nebbia looked at him confused, and nodded. He walked closer and gave a closer look at her, she was visibly worried and scared.
- You’ll be ok kid, they weren’t gonna help – he said.
- I guess – Nebbia said as she looked at Frost being almost scolded by Pris, she also noticed Ram looking at her with menacing eyes. - I got him in trouble, I didn’t want him to be in more than he seems to be… - she said under her breath. Gavin didn’t answer and looked at her still almost like trying to figure her out. - You from that autumn place huh? - she asked him as she turned to him.
- Yes my dear, was born and raised down there. But I have been in these northern places for a long while now – he explained.
- You talk like from where I come from... just with an accent – she said.
- Yeah you don’t have it – he said smiling – We should rescue your boyfriend before he gets more triggered, I can feel him building up – he said as he rushed into them.
Frost was standing as he was clenching his fists, Gavin made his way in the middle.
- Now now! Give him a breather! - Gavin said.
- This is not your business old man – Ram said.
- Old man?? I am as old as you, asshole! Hey, all I am saying is let “her people” help her! BUT! - he looked at Frost – HE kinda did find her so he is involved no matter what bullshit you are trying to implement on him. He is part of this mess – he gave him a look – and… it probably IS part of this mess. He did what y’all wanted him to do, I can take it from here. - He pushed Frost away from them making him walk slowly to Nebbia, he could hear him still blabber things to Pris and Ram about him it was almost echoes.
- Are you ok? - Nebbia asked as she walked closer to him
- Yes – he said in a very monotone voice as he looked down very angrily.
- OK, let’s skedaddle towards my place, we need some privacy – Gavin said as he pushed both of them out of the large hall. As they left Nebbia turned to Frost’s family and they seemed disappointed and worried as they watched them leave the place. Nebbia felt a lot of guilt about this, maybe if she just stayed at the party none of this would have happened to anyone… it was all her fault if Frost was in this problem and it felt like he already had enough on his plate and she was just the icing in the cake.
They walked in between streets and found themselves in a small home built in stone and wood, he opened his door on the front of it almost like a decoration had a little toadstool engraved in it.
- Home sweet home – he said as he let them in. Nebbia walked in and upfront she saw a big library with books covering every corner of the walls, some also on the floor stacked like little towers, in all this mess there was a sofa sitting in the middle with a blanket thrown over, on the other side a desk with several books over it and a chair that seemed old, there was a hallway that connected to another place but because it was a bit dark it was hard to see. Gavin walked in almost avoiding the piles of books as he went and turned some lamps to shine the area. Nebbia looked at everything with curiosity.
- Sorry for the mess been busy as of late – he said as he kicked some books away and offered the seat for them. Nebbia walked slowly trying not to step on something and when she finally sat a big cloud of dust came from the cushions from it.
- Nice place old man – Frost said as he looked around and stayed up as he had his arms crossed.
- I know it’s a dump Frost you don’t have to scream it – he said as he made headway to his chair and sat back, almost like a businessman. - SO! Spirited away! - he said suddenly.
- Spirit what now? - Nebbia asked.
- What happened to you, you got spirited away by something … to this world – Gavin explained.
- How are you sure? - Frost asked.
- It's printed all over her essence – he explained.
- My essence? - she asked a bit confused.
- You see my dear, I can see alterations in your spirit… you have a strange residue from when you got sent here. Whatever spirit that touched you marked you in a way, I know you have marks on your wrists and ankles from when they held you, hand marks if I am correct - Nebbia looked at Frost as she lifted her sleeve a bit to show the bruises that where left behind.
- How did you know this? - Nebbia asked.
- I can see them… and it’s very clear to me – he leaned back in his chair as he intertwined his fingers almost feeling proud of himself.
- Do you have any idea of why? - Frost asked him. Gavin turned to him and his smirk turned into a frown almost, his gold eyes looked at him as he analyzed him.
- You know what it is Frost – he said in a somber tone, Frost almost felt a shiver go down his spine when he said this. - And I know that she is unaware that she is helping you with it, am I right? -
- helping him? With what? - Nebbia looked at Frost who was getting a bit distressed.
- He has not been entirely honest with you – he said as he stood up and walked towards them – So Frost I’m gonna just say this on a whim… have you been sleeping better? The nightmares are long gone, you are a bit stronger even – he said as he walked towards him.
- So much that you can do your ice trick again - Frost gazed at him and Nebbia.
- How did you know this, old man? - Frost asked, Gavin smiled and pointed to his hands.
- I can see the trail of magic, it’s part of my thing. And… - he turned to Nebbia – you had the dark touch on you, something bad touched you – he said as she leaned to her and pointed to the side of her shoulders – that’s where she hurt you, didn’t it? - Gavin’s tone was strange, his charm was thrown out of the room almost showing a very mystical man saying very true things, and things that only they witnessed. Nebbia was a bit surprised but not scared.
- The nightmare… the gray decaying lady – Nebbia confessed – When Frost got his mom I was left behind and… I had this encounter with a horrible woman that came from that bedroom at the cabin. - she explained – I thought it was a nightmare, I already had bruises and I thought it was from when I came here… so it did happen? – Nebbia turned to Frost who was distressed still, and started to walk back as he leaned on the bookshelf behind him, his hand was shaking feeling that dread once more.
- She… is not real – Frost said – SHE IS NOT REAL – he hit the bookshelf and almost in a blink it covered it with a fine layer of ice.
- My boy she has been real, I told you… this will keep coming back I told you YEARS ago – Gavin said as he stood between him and Nebbia, almost as if he was trying to protect her. Frost grunted opened the door and left quickly, Nebbia stood up.
- Frost?? WAIT! - she said but Gavin grabbed her.
- Let him go, he’s far too dangerous! - he pleaded, Nebbia pulled her arm and ran off behind him trying to keep up with him. Gavin walked towards the door looking at them run in the distance – Oh they’ll come back… at some point – he said as he closed the door behind him.
***
Frost ran out of town and onto the road, he felt overwhelmed and it was the first time since he started hearing those voices again whispering in his mind. “go home… come home… come back home… it’s safe...” it said almost hypnotizing him. He looked at the old road, the old… farm… road…
As he walked up the hill he kept hearing the whispers, he was lost in them as he kept moving slowly up the hill. And found himself again under the arc from the entrance of the old farm. The wind blew hard making it whistle in the air, he kept walking till he found himself at the entrance of the old building, the tomb he called it. The cold air blew from inside almost making a whaling noise from it. But after he pushed the door from it Nebbia held him from his hand.
- FROST! SNAP OUT OF IT! - she screamed at him as he pulled him making him react again as he looked at her holding him from his arm.
- Nebbia? - he was so off he just realized where he was standing. - how did I get here? - he said as he stepped back.
- I was screaming for you… you were… you were like possessed by something – she said as she kept holding him. He looked at the building and shook his head as he felt a bit dizzy, he walked and again sat on the old well gathering his thoughts. Nebbia stood beside him as she put her hand over his back, she was very worried but at the same time… she needed some answers.
- What happened Frost? What’s happening to you… and what does this place mean? - she asked as she looked at the old black building.
- This is where I was born… and where my parents got killed – he explained as he felt Nebbia’s gaze on him.
- Killed…? But… -
- Pris is my adopted mother, she took care of me when I lost my parents. - he explained not taking away his eyes from the place. - Every family member of my clan got murdered here, by one of their own -
Nebbia sat beside him as she gazed at him, his eyes looked down to the snow as he seemed lost in his thoughts.
- Soon after that I slowly started to have horrible nightmares, Pris thought it was because of what I witnessed but… I could hardly remember anything that happened, the only thing that I do remember is my mom dead on the floor and her killer holding her. That is just ingrained into my memory… but I have not much recollection of what happened. I was very young. - he said.
- That’s awful… - Nebbia said but there wasn’t anything she could say to make it any better.
- Your nightmare, has been my nightmare for all my life… - he bluntly said. - I got rid of her one time, but … it came back, in recent months it’s been so unbearable… I couldn't sleep, I barely ate, and… I ended up in this spot every day. - he looked at the building again – it whispers to me… it lures me in… it wants me inside of that place – he said in a shivering voice. -That day that I found you I was almost going to cave in, I was here sitting when it all happened… - he looked finally at her – and I think if it wasn’t for you, I would be in there with whatever was trying to lure me in –
Nebbia looked at him as she held his hand gently, she did not have words to give him but this small gesture, for him meant comfort.
- He is right though, I have been sleeping, I have been feeling a lot better since you came to me – he admitted – I’m sorry if I haven’t been entirely true to you – Nebbia smiled at him.
- You said it before… I’m a stranger. You don’t have to tell me anything… at all even – she said, he lifted his hand and caressed her cheek she was a bit surprised by his action making her blush a bit. The wind suddenly blew hard making the whaling of the house sound almost like a growl even. He turned to the building looking at it spitefully.
- let’s go home – he told her as he stood up and offered his hand to her, Nebbia sat there looking at him, she looked at his hand almost doubting but… she felt like she could trust him if anything… he had been truth to his words. She took his hand and stood up as they started to walk down that hill again, she slowly turned back as she noticed someone standing in the distance, she wasn’t sure what she saw… but it reminded her of that man back in the station.
